Short
Violence and chance collide in this skin-crawling look at a young man trying to reclaim the affection of his girl on an afternoon drive.
Short
Time-lapse study of construction blocking a window with a view across the river to Manhattan. Progress isn’t always welcome.
Featured/Narrative Feature/Screening on the set of There Will Be Blood
Special screening on the set of There Will Be Blood. Daniel Day Lewis stars in this merciless examination of power lust and greed in the forming days of the oil industry from Writer-Director Paul Thomas Anderson. Based on a novel by Uptain Sinclair, P.T. Anderson reaches new heights as a filmmaker in this gorgeous and relentless epic shot almost entirely in Marfa. The film received numerous Oscar nominations, with wins for Daniel Day Lewis and cinematographer Robert Elswitt. We’re please to announce this once-in-a-lifetime screening will happen on the set of THERE WILL BE BLOOD just south of Marfa on the MacGuire Ranch. Though some small parts of the set will remain after the event, the town (where we will screen) will soon be torn down, as the West Texas winds are already taking their toll on the scenic construction. There will be shuttles to this event, with pick up in or near downtown Marfa (location TBA). No private vehicles. Bring blankets and chairs if you like, or chairs will be available to rent for three dollars.
Narrative Feature
A man getting comfortable in his new exurban home spies a girl and a strange man in the woods behind the house. When he meets them it's not for the first time. A time-weaving sci-fi thriller that leads one way and then another, leaving the audience unsure where it all began.
Short
A physical misfit with heightened senses lives a lonely life in a noisy world until the possibility of love arrives. A wonderfully made fairy tale of longing, persistence and fulfillment from France.
Featured/Narrative Feature/Special Event Late Show Dance Party!
A fascinating look at Texas culture from the brilliant American original, David Byrne, starring Jo Harvey Allen and a young John Goodman. Bring comfortable shoes because we're dancing! Archival 35mm print on loan from Warner Bros. This is an outdoor event. Bring your own blankets and chairs if you like. Comfortable chairs will be available to rent for three dollars. There will be food and beverages.
Documentary Feature
A small Texas town hires an undercover cop who successfully busts dozens of drug offenders. But then suspicion about the cop soon grows, when almost everyone he arrested was African-American. Is he racist? Is he seeking career advancement? Or were the arrests legitimate? Draw your own conclusions in this searing documentary.
Short
A lonely mid-western farmer in a farmhouse surrounded by crows talks to his scarecrow and discovers a forgotten past after years of buried regret.
Documentary Feature/World Premiere
This winding, fascinating oral history of the Big Bend appears like a time-capsule, exposing the magic of the land and its people, and a world gone-by. Terlingua and the chili cook-off in 1985, with a performance from a young Gary P. Nun, closes this portrait of a strange place in time. Note: Look for Texas legend Hallie Stillwell and Marfan Harry Hudson. World Premiere.
